DJing is all about the connection between you, your music and your audience. From cueing to beat-matching to scratching, the best DJ tools allow you to literally get your hands on your music.

M-Audio designed the Torq Xponent with a full array of tactile controls so you can get into the music and engage the crowd at every moment of your set.

Xponent features 64 assignable backlit buttons (including Play, Cue, Seek, Loop, Key and Sync controls), two volume sliders, eight assignable knobs for effect control and two 100mm pitch sliders. The built-in touchpad/assignable X/Y controller allows you to control your mouse or the effects in Torq, so you never have to take your hands off the unit in the middle of a performance.
Every control on Xponent boasts the same rock-solid construction and rugged feel as traditional DJ hardware. With full-size tactile controls, an integrated USB audio interface and intuitive MIDI-learn capabilities, Torq Xponent bridges the gap between traditional DJ hardware and today’s powerful performance software once and for all.

Xponent is both an advanced MIDI control surface for Torq and a four-output USB audio interface—including two stereo RCA outputs and a standard ¼” headphone output for cueing.
Torq 1.5 gives you 10 essential effects right out of the box for dynamic manipulation of your tracks. Imagine the possibilities of stacking multiple distortion, filter, repeat, chorus or bit-reduction effects while mixing between songs. You can turn any track into your own original creation—and even record it on the spot with the integrated performance recorder.

In addition to VST compatibility, Torq 1.5 software can interface with any ReWire-compatible host application. You can easily route the output of Torq to a program like Pro Tools M-Powered and explore even more performance, production and sound design possibilities. When ReWired to a host application, the tempo of Torq automatically locks to the current session tempo, so you never have to worry about syncing playback between Torq and your preferred DAW. In addition, the Xponent control surface can be MIDI-mapped to other digital audio workstation software including Ableton Live.

Engineered by M-Audio’s SynchroScience Design Group, the package includes: the Torq DJ software that’s revolutionizing digital DJing and the Xponent hardware control surface that puts all that power right at your fingertips.

M-Audio Unveils Studiophile DSM3 Active Studio Reference Monitor

New premium studio monitor enables users to create mixes that sound consistent across a broad range of listening environments
Tewksbury, Mass, April 6, 2009 — M-Audio, a part of Avid Technology, Inc. today introduced the new Studiophile DSM3 active studio reference monitor, providing superior monitoring capabilities for audio professionals. The Studiophile DSM3 monitor delivers exceptional accuracy, clarity and dynamic range via a number of unique design elements including onboard digital signal processing (DSP), carefully matched components and a dual-woofer configuration.

The Studiophile DSM3 monitor is the result of a strategic engineering collaboration between Avid’s M-Audio and Digidesign product lines and features a unique hybrid midwoofer-tweeter-midwoofer (MTM) design. This configuration delivers the sound of a larger monitor and flexibility of horizontal or vertical placement, allowing users to position the monitor a variety of different ways while maintaining consistent sound. The MTM design also maximizes the horizontal radiation pattern coherency for a wide and accurate sweet spot with minimal reflections, giving engineers the freedom to move from side to side across the mixing board, while hearing the same representation of the mix.

Additionally, a powerful onboard DSP engine controls a complex fourth order digital crossover to provide true acoustical alignment and exceptional imaging. The Studiophile DSM3 monitor’s onboard DSP also manages a host of customizable filter settings to help optimize the speaker for placement within even the most challenging acoustic settings.
The Studiophile DSM3 monitor includes several robust design components—including custom 6.5-inch anodized aluminum cone woofers and a 1-inch ferrofluid-cooled Neodymium tweeter—which provide customers with superior accuracy and response, enabling them to create mixes that sound consistent across a broad variety of listening environments.

“With the Studiophile DSM3, we were able to incorporate advanced digital technology into an unconventional MTM system configuration,” stated Richard Ngo-Tran, Marketing Manager at Avid Technology. “The result is an exceptionally well-designed high-definition monitor that delivers outstanding performance—ideal for both professional environments and project studios.”

M-Audio Axiom Pro Range - Introducing HyperControl Technology

The Axiom Pro keyboard controller series marks the debut of M-Audio’s new HyperControl technology—a powerful link between your M-Audio Axiom Pro and host software that lets you control DAW parameters, virtual instruments and plug-in’s with an unprecedented level of dynamic integration. Beyond automatically mapping your Axiom Pro knobs, buttons, faders and pads, HyperControl offers a series of unique features including constant two-way communication with your software, intuitive LCD display navigation, Transport Only mode and modular grouping of keyboard controls. You can even send ASCII (QWERTY) keyboard shortcuts right from your Axiom Pro controller.

While other MIDI-mapping technologies require complicated setups and offer limited integration with the host software, HyperControl requires just a one-time software installation before use, and works with many major software programs including Pro Tools M-Powered, Reason, Cubase and Logic. Let’s take an in-depth look at a few ways you can use Axiom Pro with HyperControl technology along with Pro Tools M-Powered 8 software to streamline your sessions and maximize your creative potential.

The LCD Display—See HyperControl in Action
The Axiom Pro controller features a large graphic LCD display that constantly updates to tell you what parameters are being controlled. Unlike other MIDI-mapping technologies, HyperControl receives “feedback” from the host software and displays parameter changes on the graphic LCD in real time.

When using HyperControl in Mixer mode, there are four main screens from which to choose. The default Home page lists the eight tracks under Axiom Pro control and lets you use the encoder knobs to adjust track panning. The Ins page displays the plug-ins that are loaded on each track and assigns the knobs to control plug-in settings. The Sends page allows you to use the encoder knobs to set effect send levels for your Pro Tools tracks.

While the Home and Sends pages provide a global overview of one parameter across a bank of eight Pro Tools tracks, the Chan page provides a detailed view of all parameters on one specific Pro Tools track. You can use the eight track selection buttons to choose which track to view, then use the encoder knobs to change pan and send levels. The F-keys located below the LCD screen allow easy track navigation and mute/solo of the selected track.

Send ASCII (QWERTY) Keyboard Shortcuts from Numeric Keys
Axiom Pro allows you to send more than just MIDI data—you can also send ASCII keystrokes, emulating Pro Tools keyboard shortcuts. Gone are the days of interrupting your creative workflow to save a session, change view configurations or create new tracks. Now you can assign the numeric keys and/or trigger pads to perform Pro Tools functions right from Axiom Pro, minimizing the amount of time you spend using a mouse to control your software.

M-Audio Axiom Pro ships with two templates designed specifically for Pro Tools M-Powered (Mac and PC). These factory presets automatically assign the numeric keypad to send pre-defined Pro Tools shortcuts—enabling you to trigger common functions with the tap of a button. Using the easy-to-navigate menu, you can reassign the buttons to send any ASCII key combination you wish, then save your settings to any of the 50 onboard memory patches.

Use Faders to Automate Track Volume
Using a tactile control surface to mix tracks can be liberating—it frees you from being tied to the computer screen and gives you a different perspective on the music. Axiom Pro provides eight faders for adjusting track levels, plus a ninth fader for controlling the master volume. As you bank through tracks using buttons F6 and F7, a blue outline will appear in the Pro Tools onscreen display, showing you which tracks are currently being controlled by HyperControl.

The Axiom Pro faders come in especially handy when automating track volume in Pro Tools M-Powered 8. To enable volume automation in Pro Tools, change the track automation selection from “Read” to “Touch,” and start playback of your session. Any volume adjustments you make using the Axiom Pro faders will be recorded into Pro Tools. HyperControl ensures that all changes made in Pro Tools are automatically updated on the Axiom Pro controller, and vice versa.

Use HyperControl in Transport Only Mode
When using Axiom Pro with Pro Tools M-Powered 8, the six transport buttons automatically map to control the transport functions in Pro Tools. This gives you quick and easy access to play, stop, scroll and record—some of the most frequently used functions in Pro Tools. Unlike other all-or-nothing mapping technologies, you can also use HyperControl in Transport Only mode, which frees up the rest of the controls to be reassigned just like a traditional MIDI controller.

Use Knobs to Control Plug-in Parameters
Using a mouse to edit one parameter at a time can be laborious and time-consuming. Axiom Pro features eight endless rotary knobs so you can get your hands on plug-in and virtual instrument parameters. The LCD screen constantly updates to reflect the current status of the settings you’re changing. It’s great for exploring different settings until you get the right sound. Pro Tools M-Powered 8 even lets you create custom configurations for plug-ins and virtual instruments, allowing you to easily re-map parameters across the Axiom Pro rotary knobs.

The eight rotary knobs are perfect for controlling the Digidesign Eleven Free guitar amp plug-in that’s included in Pro Tools M-Powered 8. HyperControl automatically maps the eight knobs to the amp settings in Eleven Free, so you can adjust gain, EQ, tremolo, master volume, amp type and speaker cabinet type—all on the fl y. It’s just like dialling in the perfect tone on a sweet-sounding vintage amplifier.

Control Virtual Instruments Using Instrument Mode
The F1 Mode button on Axiom Pro lets you quickly toggle between Mixer mode and Instrument mode. While Mixer mode enables you to adjust track parameters like panning and effect send levels, Instrument mode automatically maps the Axiom Pro controls to parameters in your virtual instrument plug-ins.

After you’ve selected the track you wish to control, press the F1 Mode button to enter Instrument mode—all virtual instrument parameters will automatically map to the Axiom Pro controller’s rotary knobs. If you’d rather make adjustments using the faders, press the Flip button to swap between faders and knobs. It’s a great way to control the settings in virtual instruments like Digidesign’s new DB-33 tonewheel organ, Mini Grand piano, and Vacuum and Xpand2 synths—all included free in Pro Tools M-Powered 8.

Our DJ design team developed Torq hardware and software to work together from the ground up, ensuring our integrated systems provide solid and dependable performance right out of the box. M-Audio’s quality assurance team tests every Torq DJ product thoroughly to guarantee stable, reliable operation on a variety of systems.

Torq Conectiv—The Ultimate Vinyl- and CD-Control System
Torq Conectiv is a completely integrated digital DJ system featuring the Conectiv 4 x 4 USB audio interface and Torq 1.5 software. Conectiv was designed to join turntables and CD players with Torq software, giving you true vinyl and CD control over digital music files. Specially encoded Torq Control Vinyl and CDs provide response that’s virtually indistinguishable from standard records and CDs. So if you’re ready to go digital but love the feel of your turntables and mixer, Torq Conectiv has you covered. Conectiv can be used in a variety of ways, providing a flexible interface for digital DJ setups. When you connect your DJ hardware, the large mix knobs allow you to seamlessly mix the incoming audio from a turntable or CD player with the output of a connected Mac or PC. You can also route the analog output of connected gear into
Torq and process the audio with VST effects—using the control knobs to blend the dry and processed signals.

For the ultimate hands-on Torq experience, Torq Xponent is a hardware/software solution that includes everything a professional DJ needs to perform with a laptop. Torq Xponent combines Torq software with an assignable MIDI control surface and USB audio interface that features two pairs of RCA outputs and a standard headphone output for cueing. So if you’re ready for the next generation of DJ performance hardware, get on board with Torq Xponent.

Xponent delivers complete hands-on control of cueing, beat matching and scratching—eliminating the need to adjust parameters with a mouse or keyboard. Xponent features a full array of pre-mapped controls, including a built-in X/Y track pad that can either replace your mouse or manipulate effects processing. The 64 assignable backlit keys provide a stunning visual display, pulsating to the tempo and fluctuating in brightness according to parameter status. For DJ CD-player-style control, the unit also includes two touch-sensitive scratch wheels for scratching, speeding up and slowing down digital files. Level and progress LED meters round out all the features that performing DJs need.

X-Session Pro—Compact Mixer-Style Control
The X-Session Pro USB MIDI controller is the easiest way to bring traditional DJ mixer-style control to the world of computer DJing and live performance. This complete system features Torq LE software—which provides many of the same killer features found in Torq—plus a control surface that fuses the standard controls of a two-channel DJ mixer with the transport and pitch controls of a turntable or DJ CD player. The mixer controls allow you to make smooth cross fades and adjust level, cueing and EQ parameters—while the integrated transport and pitch controls allow you to start, stop and beat match digital files.

The DJ Experience—Redefined
The M-Audio Torq product line combines digital DJ software with an unprecedented set of production features, revolutionizing the way DJs perform live and create original music. By combining bulletproof hardware technology with stable and intuitive software, Torq systems provide complete solutions for computer-based DJs. The program combines exceptional vinyl/CD emulation with a broad assortment of built-in effects, advanced sampler options and powerful studio production tools. So whether you’re DJing for a dance crowd, performing live on stage, or producing a mix tape, Torq empowers you to explore new musical possibilities.

In addition to essential cueing, beat matching, mixing and rock solid performance, Torq offers a host of real-time creative options unavailable anywhere else. M-Audio designed Torq to easily transition today’s diverse DJ into the world of producing, and also allow studio producers to perform live. Torq software integrates seamlessly with multiple hardware options, forming complete solutions that fulfil the needs of every DJ.

Get the Party Started
Whether you’re rocking a club or a backyard party, Torq software delivers the rock-solid stability you need to keep the mix alive and thumping. Torq was designed for easy setup and operation—it automatically configures to work with M-Audio hardware and organizes your digital music collection into an easily searchable database. The intuitive user interface was modelled after traditional DJ hardware, and includes two decks, a two-channel mixer with three-band EQ, level controls, headphone cueing and a cross fader. With automatic beat matching and pitch alteration features, Torq simplifies the mixing process, allowing you to concentrate on song selection, reading the crowd and having fun.

Remix and Mash-Up Tracks on the Fly
Torq combines digital DJ software with a powerful remix machine—complete with built-in effects processing, MIDI compatibility, a 16-cell tempo-synced sampler and support for external VST plug-ins. These tools help you create your own style, blurring the line between live DJ performance and advanced music production. Imagine the potential of stacking multiple effects like delay, flange and distortion, while tweaking the parameters via mouse or a MIDI controller, like the Oxygen 8 v2 or Trigger Finger. These devices let you get your hands on every parameter in Torq, including triggering sound clips and one-shots from the sampler. Torq 1.5 software can also transmit and receive MIDI clock for synchronization with external devices—expanding your setup to include drum machines, effects processors and other computers. You can also set Tempo Anchors to ensure that two songs stay in sync with each other, even if a song has a varying tempo. In the Studio with Torq
Torq software also delivers unique advanced functionality for studio projects. The ReWire-compatible application can link with Pro Tools M-Powered, Ableton Live, Logic, Cubase and many other software programs. This becomes invaluable when remixing tracks with troublesome tempo and pitch variations. You can easily mark tempo changes using Torq 1.5 software’s Tempo Anchors—Torq will instantly readjust the track to match the global BPM. The improved time stretching in Torq 1.5 can further enhance your mixes, allowing you to match keys and tempos between songs with excellent sonic quality. With an unparalleled set of production features, Torq brings the essential elements of live performance to the studio—infusing your original music with new energy.

On the Airwaves
